How many years of experience do you have as a host/hotelier?
I have 20 years of experience in the tourism sector. I started my business journey as a host in a camp, specifically, maintenance of mobile homes. After 15 years of working for other companies, always in the tourism sector, I opened my own company and started providing maintenance services to my former employers, so no longer as an employee but as an external collaborator. 🙂
After a few years, we decided to buy our own mobile homes and started a new phase in our lives, now as owners of accommodation facilities in the camp.
Why did you choose to work in hospitality?
I have always loved working with people and that was one of the biggest reasons why I chose this job. Although it requires a lot of patience and effort, at the end of the day I feel happy and fulfilled and I look forward to the next new day!
What are the biggest challenges?
There are really many challenges, especially for owners of accommodation facilities who during the season (like us) don’t really have working hours. Namely, during the summer season, we are always at the service of our clients, so it’s not just work, it’s actually a lifestyle – every day is a new challenge. 🙂
What would you recommend to future hoteliers and our clients?
Whoever decides to work in the tourism sector in whatever form, should be aware that it is not a job from 8 am to 4 pm. During the season there are no working hours, you work as much as that day requires of you. But, for those who like working with people and a dynamic job, I think this job is a perfect option. 🙂 There is something special in that feeling of liveliness and energy that this kind of work gives. Arm yourself with patience and enjoy your work!
